Came back covered in red dust and the washer saved the week. Porch light in the evening is the reason this house is better than a motel off the highway. Boots on the porch. We obeyed.

The stair creaks are a personality. Warren Street is right there, which is why you book it, and also why Saturday night is not silent. Heat clanked once an hour. I slept anyway.

The brick and the rattle are part of it. Calvin's note about the fourteen stairs is accurate. We walked to dinner both nights and the desk was actually usable, which is rare.
